
Catherine Houska
Catherine Houska's clients include well-known architects, structural engineers, developers, building owners, fabricators, contractors, insurance companies, metal producers, finish suppliers and stainless steel, molybdenum, chromium and nickel industry associations. She has consulted on well-known building and construction projects around the world. Catherine is retained both during design and when failures occur. She is the author of over 200 publications, a frequent speaker and has won numerous awards.
She has substantial experience with standards and their development. At ASTM International, Catherine is particularly involved in A01 Steel and E60 Sustainability. She served as chair of E60.80 General Sustainability standards for many years and is now Vice Chair of ASTM E60. She has written several new and revised numerous ASTM A01 standards. She is also an advisory member of AWS D1.6 Welding Structural Stainless Steel.
Catherine is a long-term USGBC member and developer/presenter of AIA continuing education programming. She also assisted with the APTA passenger railcar and station guideline, the SMACNA Architectural Sheet Metal Manual and NAAMM Finishes Manual.
She was a steering committee member for the development of the first AISC Steel Design Guide 27: Structural Stainless Steel. When work on AISC A370 Specification for Structural Stainless Steel in Buildings and AISC 313 Code of Standard Practice Structural Stainless Steel began, she participated from the initiation of that effort. She is Vice Chair of Subcommittee 3 of AISC 370 and an active member of AISC 313. Both are in their 2nd revision. When SEI/ASCE 8 Cold Formed Stainless Steel was finally revised after a 20-year hiatus, she became a member of that committee too.
