Selection and Specification

Wherever you are in the design stage, Catherine Houska Consulting offers metal selection and specification services to ensure your project performs at its highest potential. Our extensive knowledge of global atmospheric corrosion, alloy selection, and finish specification can help architects and structural engineers alike maximize sustainability and resilience. We have significant experience in

  • Atmospheric corrosion site evaluations

  • Fabricator and supplier identification and screening

  • Architectural drawing review to avoid galvanic corrosion

  • Finish options, maintenance, and durability

Catherine Houska has been involved with atmospheric corrosion testing around the world and has numerous publications about site assessment. These include Guidelines for Corrosion Prevention, Deicing Salt - Recognizing the Corrosion Threat, and Stainless Steel for Severe Coastal Environments

In addition to these publications, in collaboration with the International Molybdenum Association (IMOA), Catherine Houska developed the Stainless Steel Selection System. This system helps determine the appropriate stainless steel grade for exterior applications based on environmental and design factors. The wide applications of this systemized selection process can be further explained by these case studies.
